DESCRIPTION:[ ↓↓ English version below ↓↓]\n\nVom 13.08. bis 13.09. verwand
l!\n\nDie künstlerischen Positionen bespielen zentrale Orte – vom Marktpla
	LOSSLICHTSPIELE Light Festival\n[https://www.schlosslichtspiele.info/]stat
Alle Interessierten sind herzlich will
	kommen!\n\nDie Künstler:innen nutzen wissenschaftliche Verfahren\, histori
tbarkeiten. Medienkunst wird hier zum Instrument gesellschaftlicher\nRefle
	xion: präzise\, poetisch\, politisch.\n\nMehrere Arbeiten machen Umweltver
	änderungen erfahrbar\, die sonst unsichtbar\nbleiben. Die Künstler:innen a
	rbeiten mit wissenschaftlichen Methoden:\nRasterelektronenmikroskopie oder
Geodatenanalyse.
ns unmittelbar betreffen.\n\nSo setzen Norina Quinte\, Andreas Hölldorfer
	ofmediaarts.de/de/kuenstler/vera-gaertner/] macht\nmit Live from Plastisph
	r-Merz\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/de/kuenstler/lucile-schwoerer-merz
	Vervliet\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/de/kuenstler/eveline-vervliet/]l
	//www.cityofmediaarts.de/de/kuenstler/iris-a-maz/] transformiert in der\nK
\nwirkt fort in Infrastrukturen.\n\nWelche Vergangenheit prägt unsere Gege
	nwart? Dieser Frage gehen in 2 Flächen\nbewegen\, 50 km/h\, Schritttempo I
	sabel Motz\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/de/kuenstler/isabel-motz/]\, N
	is Petersen\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/de/kuenstler/nis-petersen/] u
	nd Josefine Pilar\nScheu [https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/de/kuenstler/jose
	ganisieren\, sensibilisieren Yulia Mashkova\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.
	de/de/kuenstler/yulia-mashkova/] und Grisha\nMumrikov [https://www.cityofm
	ediaarts.de/de/kuenstler/grisha-mumrikov/] in\nFragile Homes.
	vit\nKhorbaladze [https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/de/kuenstler/davit-khorba
	 Lajos\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/de/kuenstler/lehel-lajos/]und Dani
	ela Vargas\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/de/kuenstler/daniela-vargas/]
ihre Arbeit No\nLonger Not Yet (2025) weiter.
\n\nEinen Schritt weiter geht SangDoo Nam\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de
axis jenseits musealer Konservierung.\n\nIm studio hö erarbeitet Stipendia
	tin Isabelle Konrad\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/de/kuenstler/isabelle
FU
gile Homes\,\nLight up Weinbrenner\, Memoraque und One way or another\, si
reative City of Media Arts\nKarlsruhe gefördert worden.\n\n\n\n/-/-/\n\n\n
\nFrom August 13 to September 13\, the city of Karlsruhe transforms into a
n\nopen-air exhibition space.\n\nFrom the Marktplatz\, through the Alte Fl
ugplatz\, to the Alb\, visitors can\nexperience contemporary media artwork
s free of charge and gain new perspectives\non public space and our role w
ithin it. The presentation runs alongside the\nSCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Light Fe
	stival [https://www.schlosslichtspiele.info/] and\,\nfor four weeks\, invi
tes visitors to rediscover Karlsruhe through media and light\nart.\n\nThe
artistic works occupy central locations – from the Marktplatz to the Alter
\nFlugplatz [old airfield] and along the river Alb. The media artworks cre
ate new\nconnections between urban space\, nature\, and society. They make
the invisible\nvisible: microplastics in river water\, deforestation as r
hythm\, climate data as\nsound. The exhibition runs parallel to the SCHLOS
SLICHTSPIELE Light Festival and\ninvites visitors\, over the course of fou
r weeks\, to rediscover Karlsruhe through\nmedia and light art.\n\nThe off
icial opening takes place on August 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the ZKM Karlsruhe.\
nEveryone interested is warmly welcome.\n\nThe artists draw on scientific
methods\, historical references\, and participatory\nformats to find orien
tation in a rapidly changing world that challenges\nliberal-democratic ord
er. They ask: How can we grasp the ecological challenges\nof our time? Wha
t stories do military traces in urban space tell? And how do new\nforms of
community emerge?\n\nVisitors are invited to a shift in perspective – on
moss\, on bureaucracy\, on\nqueer visibility. Media art becomes an instrum
	ent of social reflection here:\nprecise\, poetic\, political.\n\nSeveral w
orks make environmental changes tangible that would otherwise remain\ninvi
sible. The artists use scientific methods such as scanning electron\nmicro
scopy or geodata analysis. These artistic translations create new access t
o\nabstract figures\, linking local places with global processes – and rem
ind us\nthat seemingly distant ecological crises affect us directly.\n\nNo
	rina Quinte\, Andreas Hölldorfer (ato)\, and VOLNA\n[https://www.cityofmed
	iaarts.de/en/kuenstler/volna/]make a visual statement on\nclimate change w
ith their Pyramide von morgen [Pyramid of Tomorrow] on the\nMarktplatz\, b
ridging the city’s history with its ecological future. The media\nart inst
allation is a temporary\, walkable pyramid structure matching the size\nan
d shape of the historical pyramid on the square.\n\nVera Gärtner [https://
	www.cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/vera-gaertner/]\, with\nLive from Plas
tisphere\, makes microplastic pollution in the Alb river visible\nthrough
very large-format images taken with a scanning electron microscope. Her\np
oetic-scientific approach to local environmental problems is on view at th
e\nshop window of the Museum beim Markt and at the fish ladder by the Thom
	aswehr.\n\nAntoine Bertin [https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/ant
oine-bertin/]\, in\n555 Hz\, translates deforestation statistics into beat
s per minute. In the\nresulting rhythm\, several metronomes strike and sen
d out a light signal\,\ncreating a physically and temporally experienceabl
e monument to this abstract\nloss in the Schlossgarten.\n\nArtist Lucile S
	chwörer-Merz\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/lucile-schwoere
r-merz/] also works\nwith geodata for her interactive sound installation m
eteo flux – eine Symphonie\nder Atmosphäre [a symphony of atmosphere]\, ex
hibited in the Fasanengarten.\nReal-time meteorological data is compared w
ith the 40-year average\; deviations\nare made audible and visible. Depend
ing on the weather and the movement of\nvisitors\, her work changes.\n\nDe
	siree Kabis [https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/desiree-kabis/] a
	nd\nEveline Vervliet\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/eveline
-vervliet/]invite a shift in\nperspective with their installation Through
Moss-Colored Glasses. The\n“moss-colored glasses” announced in the title t
ranslate human movements into the\nlanguage of this often-overlooked lifef
	orm\, opening up a queer\, non-human view\nof coexistence and community. T
he installation can be experienced at the\nNaturkundemuseum pavilion and a
	t the Regierungspräsidium.\n\nThe duo IRIS-A-MAZ\n[https://www.cityofmedia
f the Damned into an endless state of suspension in the\nKinemathek. Their
video work Himmelssturz\, developed specifically for the\nPhonolux machin
e\, turns the cinema foyer into a threshold between reality and\nfilm worl
d\, between control and liberation.\n\nOther works trace military and soci
o-political imprints in urban space. They\nconnect historical sites with c
urrent questions: about visibility\, about safe\nspaces\, about possible f
utures. These artistic interventions make clear that\nhistory is not over
	– it continues to act through infrastructure.\n\nIsabel Motz [https://www.
	cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/isabel-motz/]\, Nis\nPetersen [https://www
	.cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/nis-petersen/]\, and\nJosefine Pilar Sche
	u\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/josefine-pilar-scheu/]purs
ue the\nquestion of what past shapes our present in 2 Flächen bewegen\, 50
km/h\,\nSchritttempo. With their performances and an audio walk\, they co
nnect two\ncontrasting Karlsruhe locations: the quiet Alter Flugplatz and
the busy\nKriegsstraße. Through performative walks and car rides\, the mil
itary imprints of\nboth places are made visible\, and questions about the
	city’s possible futures\nare raised.\n\nYulia Mashkova [https://www.cityof
	mediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/yulia-mashkova/] and\nGrisha Mumrikov [https://w
	ww.cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/yulia-mashkova/]\nraise awareness\, in
Fragile Homes\, of our interpersonal coexistence and the\ninstruments of p
ower that organize it. Their projection for the\nSchlosslichtspiele\, alon
g with the sculptures in public space\, remind us that\nreal people are in
volved\, and that the paper on which our bureaucracy is built\nis a natura
	l and finite resource.\n\nKarolina Sobel [https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/e
n/kuenstler/karolina-sobel/]\naddresses queer and feminist visibility as w
ell as the fragility of safe spaces\nin her video work Soft Signals in the
ZKM foyer. The collaborative project was\ncreated together with Natia Chi
	kvaidze\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/natia-chikvaidze/] a
	nd Davit\nKhorbaladze [https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/davit-k
horbaladze/]from\nTbilisi and takes the Georgian painter Elene Akhvlediani
(1898–1975) as its\nstarting point.\n\nContinuing the exchange between th
e media art cities of Cali and Karlsruhe that\nbegan in 2024\, Lehel Lajos
	\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/lehel-lajos/] and Daniela V
	argas\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/daniela-vargas/] furth
er develop\ntheir work No Longer Not Yet (2025). At Yvonne Hohner Contempo
rary\, Memoraque\nshows an installation that seems to stem from a dream\,
bringing it into a tense\ninterplay of river and echo.\n\nSangDoo Nam [htt
	ps://www.cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/sangdoo-nam/]goes a\nstep further
\, using public space as a stage for new forms of exchange. His\ninstallat
ion turns the Kirchplatz St. Stephan into a special pop-up store where\npe
ople can trade their stories for images. Here\, art becomes a social pract
ice\nbeyond museum preservation.\n\nAt studio hö\, scholarship holder Isab
	elle Konrad\n[https://www.cityofmediaarts.de/en/kuenstler/isabelle-konrad/
]develops a new\nvisual language for female rage in her transmedia project
FURIE. It’s no\ncoincidence that the word “hysteria” comes from the Greek
hysterá – womb – and\nthat the Furies of mythology were feared as goddess
es of vengeance\, not as\nbringers of justice. FURIE asks what happens to
this pent-up energy\, and what\nemerges once it finally claims space. The
overall project is conceived as a\nlong-term image and sound atlas that gr
ows beyond the scholarship itself.\n\nAll exhibited works\, except Echo ei
	ner Ordnung\, FURIE\, Fragile Homes\, Light up\nWeinbrenner\, Memoraque un
d One way or another\, were funded in 2024 and 2025 by\nthe Medienkunst pr
oject funding program of UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts\nKarlsruhe.\n\

on public space and our role within it. The presentation runs alongside t

cupy central locations – from the Marktplatz to the Alter Flugplatz [old a

s between urban space, nature, and society. They make the invisible visibl
e: microplastics in river water, deforestation as rhythm, climate data as
sound. The exhibition runs parallel to the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Light Festiv

, historical references, and participatory formats to find orientation in
a rapidly changing world that challenges liberal-democratic order. They as

military traces in urban space tell? And how do new forms of community em
erge?</p><p>Visitors are invited to a shift in perspective – on moss, on b
ureaucracy, on queer visibility. Media art becomes an instrument of social
reflection here: precise, poetic, political.</p><p>Several works make env
ironmental changes tangible that would otherwise remain invisible. The art
ists use scientific methods such as scanning electron microscopy or geodat
a analysis. These artistic translations create new access to abstract figu
res, linking local places with global processes – and remind us that seemi
ngly distant ecological crises affect us directly.</p><p><strong>Norina Qu
