DESCRIPTION:In her influential text A Cyborg Manifesto (1985)\, Donna Haraw
ay proposes a\nradical transgression of binary oppositions such as nature
and technology\, male\nand female\, organic and synthetic. The cyborg thus
becomes a metaphor of\nresistance against essentialist notions of identit
y and rigid power structures.\nIn academic and artistic circles—especially
	 within queer\, posthumanist\, and\ntransfeminist studies—the cyborg is a
symbol of a liberating alternative for\nthose who transcend normative fram
eworks of body\, gender\, nature\, and culture.\n\nFor many who experience
	 exclusion\, identification with the non-human (monstrous\,\nsynthetic\, a
	nimalistic) can be a form of relief: robots\, monsters\, dolls\, or\nmythi
cal creatures also do not belong to the ‘normal’ human world—yet they are\
nmore stably grasped within it\, unlike tabooed bodies. Identification wit
h these\nOthers can serve as both a survival strategy and an act of defian
ce. The problem\nis that society often views those who identify with the n
	on-human (monstrous\,\nsynthetic\, cybernetic\, or animalistic) as bizarre
\, cool\, or frightening rather\nthan listening to what they have to say.
Haraway herself warns against embracing\nthe cyborg as a fetish. The aesth
eticization of monstrosity may represent a\ncomforting way for society to
cope with the discomfort of encountering what\ntruly exceeds norms. Theref
	ore\, identification with the non-human is not\nautomatically liberating\;
it can become emancipatory only when it is recognized\nnot merely as an a
esthetic but also as a testimony—with a right to political and\nexistentia
	l dimensions.\n\n[more at]\nhttps://screensaver.gallery/tereza-vinklarkova
