Anna Kraher /ROAD TO FUTURES PAST/
~ Transition from the old “white capitalist patriarchy” to informatics of domination: completed migration. Successful deployment. User adoption stabilized. The next technological disruption inevitable.
~ Cyborgs. Feminisms. Political Interventions. Flattened by technical cultures. Operationalized into data relations. Relations become vectors. Vectors become predictions.
Forty years ago Donna Haraway published her seminal essay A Manifesto for Cyborgs. Alongside the now-iconic figure of the cyborg, the essay introduced the concept of informatics of domination. A way of understanding how, in the information age, power is exercised through science and technology. Haraway urges us to look not only at technological tools, but also at the myths, promises, and imaginaries that surround them. „Indeed, myth and tool mutually constitute each other“ (Haraway, 1985).
Anna Kraher’s ROAD TO FUTURES PAST takes this connection as its starting point. The three-part video work examines prediction as an instrument of power, operating on these two levels: the myths, promises and imaginaries of prediction, and the technological tools for prediction.
